AI ethics and warnings

AI-generated mushroom foraging books on Amazon pose serious risks

AI-generated mushroom foraging books are being sold on Amazon, posing a serious risk to pickers. Experts warn that these books may be inaccurate and unsafe, and caution against using them to identify wild mushrooms.

A US firm found that samples from these books had a 100% AI detection score, suggesting they were likely written by chatbots. Some of the books encourage the dangerous use of “smell and taste” for mushroom identification.

Mistaking toxic mushrooms for edible ones can be deadly. Amazon is reviewing the books in question.
